Didge in a Day

Byetc student participating in workshop
BYETC students where given the opportunity to participate in the ‘Didge in a Day’ program facilitated by Alex Murchison from Didge Workshops. The 'Didge in a day' program was developed to provide students with a hands-on and engaging learning experience while promoting self-esteem and cultural awareness. 18  Indigenous students took part in the workshops. Each student started with a termite hollowed tree and by the end of the day had their own didgeridoo. Students learnt basic wood working and carpentry skills during the 1 day workshop. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff joined our students during the program to help foster social and cultural connection. The students remained focused throughout the 1 day program and enjoyed the program's connection to culture. Students intend to continue to decorate their instruments with artwork and engravings over coming weeks.
