Cubby House to Aurukun

Cubby on the Aurukun wharf
Each Friday Aurukun locals eagerly await the arrival of the SeaSwift barge as the ship’s docking brings with it the arrival of essential supplies and goods from far off destinations, some of which were ordered many weeks beforehand. This week’s barge contained an extra special item – a cubby house for the Aurukun State School made by students at the Brisbane Youth Education & Training Centre. Organised by the Assistant Director-General for indigenous education, Selwyn Button, and his team the cubby house will hopefully be a welcome addition to the school’s playground following its nearly 3 week journey from Brisbane to the cape. The school’s manual arts and visual arts students and teachers and teacher aides have produced another great community project. Well done to everyone involved.
