Bush Tucker Presentation

​Kangaroo and bush tomato canape
Junior and senior science students recently had the opportunity to learn about edible native Australian plants and animals with guest presenter Kara Puluo from Redbank Plains SHS’s catering company ‘Platters on Willow’.
Students got to see, smell and taste different native bush tucker ingredients as well as create a dish of their own using a blend bush foods and western ingredients. Among the highlights were a chocolate wattle seed tart and a kangaroo and bush tomato canapé. Teachers and students all enjoyed learning about and cooking with uniquely Australian ingredients. The results were delicious and students were surprised to find they enjoyed foods that challenged their perceptions while delighting their taste buds. Some students ate so much kangaroo they had to hop out of the room!
