Bees Behind Bars

BYETC's junior and senior science students participated in a beekeeping workshop this week with Paul Wood from Brisbane Backyard Bees. Paul presented the school with a colony for the topbar beehive made by Certificate I in Furnishing students.

The hive was positioned on a paved area adjacent to the school's dam. The  paving project was completed by the school's horticulture students as part of their coursework.

The science students were very excited to see the colony introduced to the hive and learn about the importance of bees. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the colony mature and to harvesting  honey from the hive in 2016.
